Nabi sat on a hefty stone, legs crossed over each other, and contemplated. She was just outside of Rustboro’s city limits, surrounded by a herd of healthy trees, save for the leaves that had fallen and died with the coming of winter. Before her, her two newly acquired pokemon, both fire types and both full of energy, chased after each other in circles. A sigh moved against her lips and let out into a faint cloud of cool air. ”This sucks,” she said, annoyed.[break][break]

The idea of a free pokemon, a fuecoco, no less, was incredibly appealing to Nabi. But she was already scrapping by trying to feed herself, Prince, and Poppy. And this fuecoco could eat.[break][break]

”Should I just name you Bottomless Pit?” she thought out loud to herself, neither of her pokemon actually paying any mind to what their trainer was saying. ”I might as well pick some berries while we’re here… that’s free.”[break][break]

Nabi stood up and raised her arms above her head. It was still brisk, and light patches of snow lined the forest ground. There weren’t many berries to go around at this time of the year, but she was in luck. Near them, she found a bush with plenty to spare. A pair of shroomish waddled away as Nabi stepped closer to pick them off.[break][break]

Not even a minute had passed when she then heard her pokemon cry in despair. Nabi turned, eyes met with a growing fire. ”You dummies!” she lashed out at them. She wanted to scold them like a mother to her child, but there wasn’t any time for that when a tree was burning alive right before her. ”Uh, quick!” Nabi glanced around. Prince would be no help in this situation, and her cyndaquil and fuecoco were running back and forth in panic mode now. They would only make it worse. ”Snow!” she exclaimed, picking up handfuls of the cold powder with her bare hands. She tried dowsing the fire by tossing bits of snow, but most of it shimmered back down to the floor or immediately melted upon contact. It was too fresh and fine to make a difference. Poppy and the fuecoco joined in unison, trying with all their might and their little hands to shovel snow at the tree.

he calls over, almost equally panicked, but is quick to snap into gym leader mode as he calls out his sandaconda.[break][break]

his sandaconda COILS on the ground, summoning SCORCHING SANDS that crawl up the flaming tree.

Her life was saved by the random stranger’s quick thinking and his sandaconda. Nabi could only watch uselessly while the flame was put out. She ignored her freezing cold hands, left red from repeated contact with snow.[break][break]

"Fuck,” she muttered to herself, both in relief and as an exasperation. "Thank god for you. I didn’t want to be known as the women who burned down an entire forest.” She shot a glare towards her pokemon, both of them flinching on sight. These two were trouble. Nabi made a mental note to catch herself a water-type pokemon for the future.[break][break]

"You are…?” she looked to the man, his features young and vibrant. She really liked his two-toned hair.

SCORCHING SANDS is enough to contain the fire but for the sake of it, cian fastens the SANDACONDITE into the MEGA BRACELET DESIREE BLOOMS had made him, channelling energy into sandaconda's MEGA EVOLUTION as it grows in size.[break][break]

like something out of an anime, backdropped by a large, cool sandaconda, cian turns to look at nabi, smirking.[break][break]

"cian maher, the guy prevented a forest fire. oh! i also run the gym here."[break][break]

he offers her his hand.[break][break]

Nabi took Cian's hand, her fingers gentle in his grasp. "You don't look like a gym leader," she said first. Yes, she meant it as an insult.[break][break]

Her eyes flickered to the mega-evolved sandaconda, it's unusual form a reminder of the top toys kids spin around. This was proof that he indeed had to be of gym leader level. Nabi pulled her hand back and crossed her arms.[break][break]

"You can call me Nabi," the pinkette announced. Her two pokemon came scurrying to her side, one at either leg. They awed at the ground-type from a distance. "Listen, it was an accident. Won't happen again. Right?" She glanced down at her feet. Ironically, her fuecoco was spewing little bits of flame from his mouth in that instance. "Cut it out, you!"[break][break]

Her fuecoco jumped and ran to Cian's leg for a hug.

Nabi didn't believe him. She wasn't one to believe people so easily in general, but her interests were piqued. "How so?" she nudged him for more information. "In a movie, this might be the part where you lead me to your hidden cabin and kidnap me." Thankfully, she wasn't that much of a sucker. And she had to agree with Cian himself. Nabi set her fuecoco down to mingle with her cyndaquil again. "I don't want to be bored to death. Please, show me something interesting, Mr. Gym Leader."

Nabi seriously thought about his question. She ran through the list in her head, checking off the generic things such as pokemon battles, adventure, and fashion. "Criminals," she decided on. "Wouldn't you agree? The people that steal or break the law, they have far more interesting lives and backstories. Take you, for example." She looked him up and down.[break][break]

"You're a gym leader, you seem like a good guy. Good guys don't have flaws. I can't appreciate a person who's perfect and always has outstanding morals." She inhaled deeply and cocked her head to him. "So... are you going to prove to me you're not just some perfect goody-two-shoes? The kind that is always heroically on time to save a girl from starting a forest fire?"
